Pforzheim, October 14, 2011: Emotional, intuitive, current and full of added value – that is the all-new iPad shopping app for the outfitters Globetrotter. With the Pforzheim-based media service provider Meyle+Müller, Globetrotter is taking mobile shopping yet another step further.
The previous Globetrotter app, which made it to the iTunes Top 20 shortly after its publication in the spring of 2010, is now being replaced by an entirely new app concept. The aim of Globetrotter and Meyle+Müller was to develop a shopping app that fully exploits the possibilities the iPad has to offer and that offers the user something that classic webshops do not: user experience. An intuitive user concept, latest prices and availabilities as well as high performance are the basis of the new app. "The Globetrotter app once again shows that even good things can be improved upon", says Martin Haag, head of the E-editorial office at Globetrotter.
The Globetrotter app consists of three levels: The shopping area, the pageable Globetrotter manuals and the interactive branch part. The levels optically arranged horizontally atop one another provide a very logical navigation.
The entire Globetrotter product range is offered in the shopping area, which has search, filter and browsing functionalities. Top brands and products can be easily and quickly selected. Through the clear user guidance and the inviting design, the customer always knows in which item category and which sub-category he is. Besides detailed product descriptions, the app also has recent customer ratings (user-generated content) and the possibility to share item information with friends on Facebook and by e-mail. The integrated shopping cart is filled without having to leave the app and the order is placed via a connection to the Globetrotter webshop. The ordering process will be adapted to mobile usage during one of the next updates.
Products can also be found via the Globetrotter manuals known from the predecessor version. By tipping on the desired product, the customer is taken directly from the catalog to the detail page of the item in the shopping area, where he can either purchase the item or bookmark it for later. The app also always has the latest edition of the customer magazine 4-Seasons - whoever wants to have a look at all editions can do so via the 4-Seasons app (4-Seasons“) which is still available for download and browsing.
The branch area is new. Depending on the current location of the user, the also shows the closest Globetrotter adventure store with emotional images. Current events, twitter feeds, various contact options and directions are further branch offers in this area – the integrated barcode scanner is a further special feature: If the customer in one of the branches scans a product, they are shown the products detail pages as well as any customer ratings for the product.
The start show "Living dreams" is a further innovation; it greets the customer when they open the app. While other apps simply offer a landing page, the new Globetrotter app offers an emotional presentation of the latest news and imagery. The news offered by the app comes from the Globetrotter forum on the Globetrotter Facebook fan page, the Globetrotter newsletter and the 4-Seasons photography contest. Users can specify which content they would like to see.
Thomas Lipke, managing director of Globetrotter Ausrüstung Denart & Lechart GmbH: "With Meyle+Müller we can rely on a proven partner. The team from Pforzheim managed to present the content we wanted in an entirely new form that offers plenty of information and just plain old fun. With this, we can now offer our customer an appealing shopping experience on the iPad."
The Globetrotter app will soon be available as a smartphone version for the iPhone and Android phones.
